‘World’s Cities of Gastronomy (China)’ vows to promote Chinese food culture by sharing

The opening ceremony for the 3-day event entitled “World’s Cities of Gastronomy (China) Gathering at Hou Kong 2021- Chinese Cuisine Sharing” (世界美食之都 (中國) 薈聚濠江 2021 系列活動 – 美食齊分享) was held yesterday afternoon at The Plaza Restaurant in Zape (萬豪軒). The event starts today until Sunday.

“Hou Kong” (“Oyster River”) is one of Macau’s ancient names.

The event is hosted by Shunde Federation & Commercial Union Association of Macau (澳門順德工商業聯合會), and is co-organised by Chengdu City of Gastronomy Association (CCGA); Shunde Association of Chefs; Macau Cuisine Association; Yangzhou Culinary Association. It is also supported by the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO), and sponsored by Tai Fung Bank and Chung Va Group.

(MGTO) Deputy Director Hoi Io Meng; Shunde Federation & Commercial Union Association of Macau Chairman Ip Sio Man; Shunde Federation & Commercial Union Association of Macau Advisor Ho Kuai Leng; Chung Va Group Chairman Leong Kam Hon; and representatives from the Macau Cuisine Association attended the opening ceremony.

When asked by reporters for further information about the event, Ip responded that as the country has four Cities of Gastronomy now, plus Macau, the event aims to promote Chinese cuisine globally. Ip also said that there will be a food exchange programme next Tuesday afternoon at Wynn Palace for chefs from the mainland to give their thoughts about Chinese cuisine developments in the future. Ip also pointed out that there will be a charity banquet at Wynn Palace. The money collected from the food vouchers will be donated to local charity organisations.

According to a statement by the host, the event consists of cuisine from Chengdu, Macau, Shunde and Yangzhou. The event aims to share and promote food culture from the four cities. The statement said that 36 restaurants and cafés, and 25 other businesses are taking part in the event, such as TaiGenBao Madam Chan Shunde Cuisine, Beverly Seafood Restaurant, Shun Hin Seafood Hot Pot Restaurant, My Monolith Saloon, Tam Chai Yu Chun, and Estabelecimento de Comidas Chu Kei.
