During yesterday’s Q&A session in the legislature’s hemicycle several lawmakers criticised the government’s infectious disease centre project near the public Conde de Sao Januario Hospital Centre on Guia Hill.

Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Alexis Tam Chon Weng and several senior officials including Health Bureau (SSM) Director Lei Chin Ion attended the two-day Q&A session which ends today.

Lawmaker-cum-civic leader Song Pek Kei criticised the government’s inability to offer the public a completion date for the centre. She questioned whether the centre’s proposed number of 80 isolation beds would be enough in case of a communicable disease outbreak. She also asked whether it was possible to have the centre further away from residential housing.
