The “2022 MGM Macao International Regatta” will be held from January 13-16, according to a statement by the Sports Bureau (ID) on Friday.
The statement noted that the event is organised by the bureau and Ursa Major Sailing Event Management, co-organised by the Marine and Water Bureau (DSAMA) and the Macau Sailing Association, and title-sponsored by MGM.
The statement underlined that 37 national and foreign teams from “around the world” will compete in three championships. The event’s three competitions are the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Cup Regatta (IRC), Macau Cup International Regatta (Beneteau First 40.7) unified design group, and the International Catamaran Invitational (Hobie16) unified design group.
The statement added that 22 national and foreign teams will compete in the waters south of Hac Sa Beach during the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Cup Regatta and the Macau Cup International Regatta. Moreover, the statement noted that 15 sailing teams will compete for the championship in the waters south of the Inner Harbour fairway off the Macau Science Centre in the International Catamaran Invitational. The competition will be judged by an international referee.
The statement added that a three-hour spectating activity will take place on January 16, with a ferry departing from the Inner Harbour Ferry Terminal at 8 a.m. for the sea off the Macau Science Centre to watch the fleet parade and the International Invitational Catamaran Tournament. The statement noted that ticket distribution details will be announced in due course. Supporting activities such as fleet parades and parent-child workshops will also be held.
The statement stressed COVID-19 pandemic prevention measures will be taken during the event which will follow the guidelines of the Health Bureau (SSM).
