Harrow Innovation Leadership Academy Zhuhai Branch Head Master Charles Grayhurst said yesterday on the sidelines of a press tour on the Hengqin campus that the one thing that makes his school different from international schools in Macau is that his school is a bilingual school which promotes both Chinese and English mindsets and biculturalism.
According to Grayhurst, the school aims to let students have the best of both the Chinese and Western worlds by enjoying a hybrid education from both cultures. He also said that the reason why parents would prefer a bilingual school located in Hengqin is because it is close to a lot of big cities such as Guangzhou, Hong Kong Macau and Shenzhen. He underlined that Harrow School is a reputable education institution, adding that by having the school set up in Hengqin, he hopes that it could help to provide an international quality schooling system for children in the Greater Bay Area. He also pointed out by attending a bilingual school, students can still be close to the Chinese culture while better connect to the international stage.
According to a statement by the school yesterday, Harrow School has been around for 450 years, and that only recently it has opened its campus in Hengqin, offering classes for students from Grade 1 to Grade 9. The statement noted that the school campus is on 47,915 square metres, and can accommodate 1,300 students.
Harrow School is an English independent boarding school in Harrow on the Hill, Greater London. The school was founded in 1572 by John Lyon, a local landowner, under a Royal Charter of Queen Elizabeth I. Harrow’s history and influence have made it one of the most prestigious schools in the world, according to Wikipedia.
