Lisboeta Macau launched its “Lisboeta Neighbourhood” yesterday afternoon at the H853 Shopping Mall, inaugurating an art activity entitled “IT’S ALL ABOUT FUN” and an exhibition called “Chinese and International Pop-up Art Alliance- Super Art Fair”.

According to a statement provided by the resort operator, “Lisboeta Neighbourhood” aims to set-up an art and culture platform, communicate with people from the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and promote Macau’s art and culture industry.

The opening ceremony was attended by various guests such as contemporary Chinese artist Zhou Chunya and Lisboeta Macau’s Director Connie Kong.

The art activity “IT’S ALL ABOUT FUN” invited visitors to “create the first artwork” at the resort, with officiating guests throwing paintballs on a canvas.

Moreover, the statement noted that the “Chinese and International Pop-up Art Alliance – Super Art Fair” contains nearly two hundred artworks, showcasing the works of artists from mainland China and Macau and will run until February 20 next year.

Meanwhile, another exhibition entitled “The Journey Begins: From H853 to Contemporary Art” is slated to open on Saturday, Christmas Day, that features notable works from mainland China.

Platform for local artists

Speaking with reporters after the event, Super Art Fair’s curator Hua Yuzhou said that there is a need to solve the issue of “how local artists can participate in international and leading exhibitions”.

Hua also talked about why the exhibition was hosted, telling reporters that it aims to be an “exchange platform between artists”, adding that the exhibition can enable local artists “to have more confidence in themselves and broaden their perspectives”.

When asked if there were plans to set up a masterclass for local artists, Hua said that “online social platforms” can serve as “an important source for artists to exchange ideas such as Instagram”.

Hua added that in February an exhibition at the Lisboeta will display artwork from young Japanese artists, adding that “such events will be a great opportunity for local artists to exchange thoughts with the Japanese artists”. Hua also said: “I think foreign artists would also like to see and learn from local artists’ work”.
