A local man reported to the police on December 18 that he was cheated out of 113,500 patacas in an online scam this month, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Lou Chan Fai said at a regular press conference last week.

According to Lou, the victim told the police that on November 30 he discovered a “Macau part-time & full-time job search” group on Facebook.

After joining the group, he contacted a “staff member” in charge of “placing orders”. The duo then continued their communication via WhatsApp. The purported staff member told the victim about the details of placing an order which required an advance payment each time and promised eight percent commission per order in return.

Lou said that the victim got interested in the offer and started his “job” on December 7 which required him to place five orders and pay online However, he was told later that there were “order errors” which required him to transfer the money again to a designated local bank account, which the victim did. Afterwards, he was unable to get his money back and then reported a loss of 113,500 patacas to the police.
