A local man was arrested last week for upskirting four female colleagues of a casino resort hotel in Cotai earlier this month, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokeswoman Lei Hon Nei said at a press briefing yesterday.

The 41-year-old suspect surnamed Leong works as a chef in the hotel.

According to Lei, the security department of the resort reported to the Judiciary Police last Sunday that during their random checks of the hotel’s CCTV footage earlier that day, they discovered that one of their staff, Leong, was taking upskirts of a female colleague with his smartphone in the staff locker area on the previous day. The security guards later also discovered from other footage that Leong took upskirts of another three female colleagues either in the hotel lift lobby or inside the lift earlier this month.

Lei said that the Judiciary Police arrived at the scene and took Leong to a police station for questioning. Leong admitted that he had been upskirting since 2019. PJ officers seized over 1,300 photo files containing a large number of upskirts which Leong took from January this year.

Lei added that Leong is a recidivist as he was arrested several times for upskirting between July and September this year. He was sentenced in one of the cases to three months behind bars, but on two-year probation. The remaining cases are awaiting trial.

Leong has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing an invasion of privacy charge, according to Lei.
