A jobless local man was arrested in Nape last Wednesday for upskirting a local woman in her twenties earlier that day, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Lai In Hong said at a press conference yesterday.
The suspect in his forties is surnamed Leong. Lai said that Leong was arrested last year for upskirting as well.
According to Lai, a convenience store sales assistant reported to the Public Security Police last Wednesday morning that a man apparently took upskirts of a female customer in the shop earlier that day. PSP officers arrived at the store to investigate. The sales assistant told the officers that he or she saw a man standing behind a female customer put his smartphone under her skirt. When the sales assistant, whose gender was not revealed by Lai, asked the man to stop upskirting, he immediately ran away but was intercepted by a male customer.
Under questioning, Leong admitted to upskirting the woman. He told the police that he saw many young women when walking along Alameda Dr Carlos D’Assumpção that morning. Leong said he found the victim attractive so he followed her into the shop and then upskirted her. The officers later discovered over 400 photos of women’s upskirts on Leong’s smartphone, including three photos of the victim. The 400 photos were taken between December 23 last year and last Wednesday, Lai said, adding that police records showed that Leong was arrested last year for upskirting.
Leong has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing an invasion of privacy charge, according to Macau Penal Code Article 186, Lai said.
