As the city’s two firework and firecracker letting-off areas were closed at midnight yesterday, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement yesterday that it has destroyed all the few remaining fireworks, firecrackers and rockets.
The statement noted that those that were unsold were all destroyed at the letting-off area in the Macau peninsula yesterday morning. The statement noted that this year Macau imported 1,399 cartons of fireworks, firecrackers and rockets, which was a 61.4 percent decrease compared to 2020. The statement noted that 39 cartons remained which were all destroyed, accounting for 2.8 percent of the total.
According to the statement, a total of 24,233 people entered the peninsula’s area near Macau Tower this year, which was a 60 percent increase compared to 2020.The statement added that this year in Taipa’s letting-off area, there were 29,344 entrees, which was a 184 percent increase.
The statement noted that the number of people needing medical support decreased, as only 11 people in Macau and 41 people in Taipa sought medical help, which was a 36.6 percent drop compared to 2020. The statement underlined that most of them were only slightly injured.
