The “Parade for Celebration of the Year of the Tiger” lit up the northern district on Saturday evening, according to a statement by the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) yesterday.

It was the final of two Chinese New Year (CNY) parades.

The statement pointed out that the event’s launch ceremony was officiated over by several guests such as MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes and MGTO Deputy Director Ricky Hoi Io Meng; Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) Executive Director Sam Lei Chou Sam; and Asia Tourism Exchange Centre representative Fang Liqun.

A total of 14 floats were presented during the parade, seven of which were from government entities such as MGTO, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM), and the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), and seven from “local enterprises” such as Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG), Melco Resorts & Entertainment Limited and MGM, the statement noted.

The floats were accompanied by a lion dance and started from Rua Norte do Patane and ended at Iao Hon Market Garden. The statement added that a show also took place in Iao Hon Market Garden with various performers.

The floats, the statement underlined, are displayed in Praça do Tap Seac and can be viewed for free until next Sunday, fully illuminated from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

Meanwhile, the statement said that a grand finale fireworks display themed “Myriad of fireworks on Lantern Festival” will take place near the Macau Tower at 9 p.m. tomorrow.

COVID-19 pandemic prevention measures in line with the Health Bureau (SSM) were adopted during the parade, such as spectators being required to present a valid Macau Health Code, scanning a venue code, and wearing a facemask, upon admission to designated areas.

The parade was organised by MGTO and co-organised by various entities including the Asia Tourism Exchange Centre, IAM and the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), among others.
