The “Albergue SCM Wishing Well” (婆仔屋願望井) activity aims to support World Cancer Day and offer everyone New Year’s wishes. The funds raised will be donated to Caritas Macau and cancer patients in need, according to a recent statement by Albergue SCM.
The event is hosted by Albergue SCM and runs until March 13.
World Cancer Day took place on February 4.
The statement noted that the well’s protective glass cover has been removed for the public to make New Year wishes. The statement stressed that Albergue SCM continues to support Caritas Macau by promoting love and the importance of cherishing life, in order to coincide with World Cancer Day. According to the statement, the event also prays for an end to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The statement noted that everyone is welcome to make a wish and place their donation into the wishing well or donation box, and may also take a pink heart-shaped wishing card to write their New Year wishes and hang it on the marriage tree in the patio of Albergue SCM.
World Cancer Day is a global initiative led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC).
The well is located in Albergue SCM’s courtyard at 8 Calçada da Igreja de São Lázaro. It opens daily from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. except Mondays when it opens from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is free.
SCM is the Portuguese abbreviation for Macau’s Holy House of Mercy. “Albergue” means “hospice” in Portuguese.
