Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) has recently promoted Chinese music to the local community and its team members, with the GEG Foundation becoming the Macao Chinese Orchestra’s (MCO) “Special Arts Patron” for the second consecutive year through the GEG Chinese Music Promotion Scheme, according to a GEG statement yesterday.

Three MCO concerts were presented through the scheme, including the Valentine’s Day “A Romantic Date” Concert at Broadway Theatre. Moreover, the GEG Foundation’s first collaboration with the Macao Youth Chinese Orchestra showcased the Young People’s Concert – “Chinese Music 101” at Broadway Theatre.

GEG and GEG Foundation also invited local community groups, teachers and students as well as GEG team members and their children to attend the concerts to promote Chinese music and Chinese traditional culture to the local community.

The statement pointed out that almost 200 people, including elderly members of the Macau Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM), (commonly known as Gung Luen), music majors at the Macau Polytechnic Institute (IPM), among others, were invited to attend the Valentine’s concert.

GEG aimed to share Chinese music with the public, raise their interest in Chinese music, and promote Chinese culture through this initiative. The resort operator also organised transport services for the elderly FAOM members while GEG Photography Club members took photos for them.

Meanwhile, in the Young People’s Concert, more than 200 teachers and students from five local schools, as well as GEG team members and their children were invited to last Saturday’s “Chinese Music 101” programme. The statement added that the concert provided young musicians “an opportunity to perform in a formal and professional orchestra setting” while also motivating students to explore Chinese music.

The statement underlined that GEG will continue to support Macau in establishing its position as a “base for exchanges and cooperation where chinese culture is the mainstream and diverse cultures coexist” and attaining appropriate economic diversification.
