Macau's merchandise imports grew by 33.6 percent year-on-year to 14.0 billion patacas in January, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced today.
Total exports – comprising domestic and re-exports – increased by 0.3 percent to 1.4 billion patacas, resulting in a trade balance deficit of 12.6 billion patacas. Re-exports accounted for 86.1 percent of all exports.
Imports of beauty, cosmetic and skincare products – the major segment of Macau's merchandise imports in January – grew by 125.6 percent to 1.7 billion patacas.
Diamond and diamond jewellery exports – the major segment of Macau's merchandise exports in January – rose by 44.0 percent to 358 million patacas.
