Lawmaker Jose Pereira Coutinho slammed the government yesterday for insisting to push ahead with its plan to redevelop the plot of land where the dilapidated Hotel Estoril and Estoril Swimming Pool are located. He also questioned why the government appeared to be going ahead “hastily” with the plan.

Coutinho made the comments in a group interview on the premises of the Macau Civil Servants Association (ATFPM) in Zape.

Coutinho, who heads the association, said the government “appears to ignore the bottom line” about the protection of cultural heritage, adding that the government had demolished “many relatively old buildings” that should have been protected.
