The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement yesterday that the annual Macao Green Week will be held between this and next Sunday (March 20-27), as well as a regular educational bird-watching activity to be held on Saturday, aiming to encourage the public to get in touch with nature and to learn more about the city’s ecological conservation effort.

The statement noted that the 41st Macao Green Week activity will be held at the Taipa Houses and feature a string of public experience activities such as tree planting, free plant distribution, and workshops that provide participants with an insight into the Municipal Affairs Bureau’s daily conservation work.

Meanwhile, a regular educational bird-watching activity, the “Bird Watching in the Wetlands” series, will be held on Saturday at the Taipa Houses, where twitchers can observe different environments and wildlife species at close quarters along the area’s many eco-trails.

The statement listed the following events in the bird-watching activity: “young egrets flying, common moorhens swimming out of the reed-beds with their mothers to learn the art of foraging, while the largest bird in the city – the grey heron, can be seen resting on the island. If you take a closer look at the dead branches protruding from the water, you might spot the kingfisher, commonly known as the “fisher”, eyeing the fish in the water. The treetops are also home to common myna birds, black-collared starlings, magpie robins and long-tailed shrikes, comprising a concert of bird sounds.”

The statement said that the bureau has installed information boards along the shoreline and ecological trails of the Taipa Houses for visitors to read, so as to introduce  the common species and increase the knowledge of wetlands in Macau.

Registration for the Macao Green Week can be made by contacting the the bureau on 2833 7676 or 2888 0087 during service hours. For more information and online registration, please visit the bureau’s official website at www.iam.gov.mo or the 41st Macau Green Week’s official website at http://nature.iam.gov.mo/greenweek2022.
