The Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) is showcasing artwork at the Youth Art Exhibition and Performance Hall in Praça do Tap Seac portraying the nation’s ethnic minorities by two students (陳曉盈和陳柳楹) from Sheng Kung Hui Choi Kou School Macau.
According to a recent DSEDJ statement, the students used different mediums, such as water colours, digital illustration and acrylics. The statement said the exhibition, titled 民族薈萃 (“Ethnic Gathering”), aims to introduce the various ethnic minorities’ cultures to the general public through the two students’ artwork. The statement said that the artwork creates the illusion of actually being with the ethnic minorities.
The central government officially recognises 55 ethnic minority groups, in addition to the Han majority. The ethnic minorities (少數民族) account for about 8.5 percent of the nation’s 1.4 billion population.
The statement pointed out that the Youth Art Exhibition and Performance Hall in Praça do Tap Seac aims to provide young locals with a platform to exhibit their artwork and perform. The statement added that the aim of the hall is to encourage students to showcase their talents in order to build up their confidence.
The exhibition is on until May 24 and opens from Tuesday to Sunday from noon to 8 p.m. Admission is free.
As part of the government’s COVID-19 epidemic prevention measures, all visitors entering the venue have to wear a facemask, have their temperature checked and present a digital health declaration.
