A taxi driver got into a three-car crash and was found to have an alcohol concentration of 1.81 grammes of alcohol per litre of blood, after which he admitted that he had been drinking 12 hours before the accident, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Lam Leong said during yesterday’s regular press conference.

According to Lam, the taxi driver, aged about 60, did not brake in time at Rotunda do Istmo and crashed into a motorcycle and a car at 4 p.m. on Saturday. Lam pointed out that the motorcycle rider, the driver and three passengers in the car were all slightly injured.

Lam said that after the police arrived at the scene and breathalysed the taxi driver, it showed that he had been drunk driving. Lam pointed out that the cabbie claimed that he  had been drinking alcohol until 4 a.m. on Saturday morning, which is around 12 hours prior to the accident.

Lam underlined that the taxi driver, who faces drunk driving charges, has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP).
