In his speech at the opening ceremony of the “National Security Education Exhibition for All” this morning, Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng emphasised that the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) Government will, as always, adhere to the overall concept of national security, unite forces from all walks of life, and continue to strengthen the MSAR’s system and capacity-building for safeguarding national security, resolutely safeguard the overall jurisdiction of the Central People’s Government, resolutely safeguard the constitutional order established by the national Constitution and the local Basic Law, resolutely safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests, and continue to write a new chapter in the successful practice of “One Country, Two Systems” with Macau characteristics, according to a statement by the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS).
The “National Security Education Exhibition for All” jointly organised by the MSAR Government and the Central People's Government Liaison Office in the MSAR was opened this morning in the exhibition hall at the China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Commercial and Trade Service Platform Complex in Nam Van.
The opening ceremony was presided over Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng, Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee Vice Chairman Edmund Ho Hau, Central People’s Government Liaison Office Director Fu Ziying, Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the MSAR Liu Xianfa, and Deputy Commander of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) in the MSAR Dai Jinsong
Ho Iat Seng, who chairs Macau’s Committee for Safeguarding National Security, said that in the past year, the MSAR Government, with the full support of the Central People’s Government, has continued to actively improve Macau's national security system while ensuring the normal prevention and control of the COVID-19 pandemic, and fully implemented the fundamental principle of “Macau Governed by Patriots”, and firmly established the social and political foundation of Macau's “One Country, Two Systems”.
Ho Iat Seng said in his speech that Macau has achieved hard-won results in maintaining political security, improving working mechanisms, strengthening the further improvement of the legal system, publicity and education. Among them, the posts of National Security Affairs Adviser and the National Security Technical Adviser have been formally established and they have performed their duties in Macau’s Committee for Safeguarding National Security, jointly fulfilling the constitutional responsibility of the MSAR for safeguarding national security, and providing greater security for Macau's “One Country, Two Systems” practice to achieve stability and far-reaching development.
Ho Iat Seng pointed out that the current international situation continues to undergo profound and complex changes, and there is still a long way to go to safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests. Safeguarding national security is an ongoing process. To do a good job in safeguarding national security in the new era, Macau must adhere to the overall concept of national security and implement the principle of “One Country, Two Systems” comprehensively and accurately. In this way, the safeguarding of national security can be organically combined with ensuring Macau's long-term prosperity and stability, creating a safer development and living environment for Macao. Therefore, the chief executive stressed, the MSAR Government will continue to adhere to the national security strategy of “preventing imported cases and preventing domestic resurgence” to ensure the safety of people's lives and physical health; continue to resolutely combat “anti-China chaos in Macau” activities in accordance with the law, and make every effort to prevent and curb any behaviour that endangers national security. In addition, the local government will enhance the sense of national identity and national security awareness of the majority of residents, especially young people, and do a good job of publicity and education to ensure that the cause of “One Country, Two Systems” will remain stable.
After the opening ceremony, an award ceremony for an essay competition themed "The Overall View of National Security in My Heart" was held. More than 420 government officials and people from all walks of life attended the opening ceremony.
