The University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Social Sciences’ (FSS) Department of Communication recently released the publication Eudemonia – UM Bridges 2022, a graduation work of the department’s fourth-year students, the public university said in a statement yesterday.

The publication’s title, the statement said, is derived from an ancient Greek term from Aristotle that means “good spirits” and is often translated as “well-being”.

Since 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has been rampant and with the increasing problems of depression, anxiety and obesity, people are more aware of the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, the statement underlined. The statement added that people are also more concerned about physical and mental health amid the pandemic, being likely to promote “healthy lifestyles, call attention to new trends in healthy eating, and expect changes in public health policies”.

The statement said that the publication brings various stories together and combines “information of relevant laws, policies, and data to explore health issues and the lives of Macau residents in the post-pandemic era”. It is divided into four sections, namely Mind, Awareness, Diet and Fitness, with the students having interviewed over 10 experts in the psychology, nutrition, education and sports fields in Macau, according to the statement, as well as collected information on relevant laws, policies and data.

The students, the statement underlined, explored health issues “closely related to the lives of Macau residents” and present stories of a variety of subjects such as “migrant workers who struggle to make a living” and “champion coaches who are committed to sports development in Macau”.
