Macau recorded 606,841 visitor arrivals in April, a month-on-month increase of 15.2 percent thanks to the easing of COVID-19 entry curbs, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced today.

However, the year-on-year figure was down 23.7 percent. Macau has been impacted by the novel coronavirus pandemic since January 2020.

Overnight visitors (180,938) fell 59.8 percent year on year, while same-day visitors (425,903) rose 23.7 percent.

Due to the increase in same-day visitors and decrease in overnight visitors, visitors' average length of stay dipped by 0.6 day to 1.0 day. Overnight visitors' average length of stay grew by 0.7 day to 3.6 days.

Mainlanders accounted for 88.1 percent of all visitor arrivals last month, which also recorded 65,418 visitors from Hong Kong and 6,415 from Taiwan.

In response to the COVID-19 risk, foreign nationals have been barred from entering Macau since March 2020.

In the first four months of the year, visitor arrivals dropped 2.0 percent year on year to 2.48 million.
