The Social Welfare Bureau (IAS) announced yesterday that its summer shelter at the Ilha Verde Activity Centre opened to the public yesterday in view of the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) issuing a yellow hot weather alert.
According to the SMG website, the yellow alert means that it will be “very hot” in Macau. It is the lower of a two-level hot weather warning system. The orange alert means that it will be “extremely hot” in Macau.
The average temperature is expected to be 27° Celsius to 33° Celsius for the next few days according to the observatory which on its website urged the public to beware of heatstroke and to drink plenty of water.
The statement noted that the shelter will remain open until the mercury drops.
In line with COVID-19 pandemic prevention measures, the statement pointed out that users must undergo a rapid antigen test (RAT) and test negative for COVID-19 before being able to enter the shelter.
Meanwhile, in order to take preventive measures against heat stroke and the effects of hot weather, the bureau urged the public to pay close attention to the physical condition and situation of the elderly, the chronically ill, frail, and those living alone.
Moreover, in line with the Health Bureau’s (SSM) pandemic prevention measures, users of the shelter must wear a facemask, undergo a temperature check, present a valid “Macau Health Code” and venue QR code, as well as maintain over one metre social distancing.
