Police intercepted a local woman in her fifties yesterday for not wearing a facemask, according to a statement by the Public Security Police (PSP).

Based on the Law on the Prevention and Treatment of Infectious Diseases and due to the government’s special COVID-19 prevention and control measures this week, people are supposed to stay at home most of the time and all adults must wear KN95 facemasks or those of a higher standard when out and about.

The statement said that on Monday at 2:40 p.m. police officers saw a woman not wearing a facemask in Rua do Lu Cao in San Kio District.

A video circulating online showed the woman shouting at the policemen, demanding that she needed to see Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng.

The woman was arrested on the spot and has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing charges of breaching the Law on the Prevention and Treatment of Infectious Diseases, the statement added.

This video grab circulating online shows the female maskless suspect arguing with two policemen on Monday. The video grab has been pixelated to protect the suspect’s identity.
