An oil painting exhibition titled “Flickering and Enchanting Space – Alice Ieong Painting Exhibition” is on display at the Creative Macau gallery located on the ground floor of the Macau Cultural Centre, where the artist used “fairy tale colours” to create imaginative spaces.
According to a recently provided Creative Macau statement, “Falling stripes, floating circles, geometrical shapes and seemingly recognisable and non-recognisable elements” stand out in the paintings and provide them with their “contemporariness”. The statement noted that the paintings’ atmosphere offers hints of coldness and spaces “detached from reality”, having no words or people while time seems to be paused.
Alice Ieong Nga Kei, according to the statement, was inspired to become an artist by her curiosity and passion for art, with her inspiration being derived from a “colourful living environment and its cultural landscape”. The statement added that she is currently studying for a master’s degree in Fine Arts at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), and is “excited to explore life, beliefs, human and society in the form of art”.
One of Ieong’s works was chosen to be shown during the Exhibition of Artworks of Macao Artists 2019 at the National Art Museum of China in Beijing, the statement pointed out.
The artworks are on display until July 16 at the gallery to free admission. However, due to the current COVID-19 outbreak in Macau, the gallery is closed until further notice.
