The city’s two beaches – Cheoc Van (“Bamboo Bay”) and Hac Sa (“Black Sand”) reopened to the public on Saturday, the Marine and Water Bureau (DSAMA) said in a statement on Friday.

According to the statement, swimming and water activities in the sea are, however, still prohibited.

The statement noted that people who go for a walk or exercise on either beach must abide by the guidelines of the Health Bureau’s (SSM) COVID-19 prevention and control measures, including wearing facemasks that meet quality standards at all times, maintaining on-site social distancing, avoiding crowds, and not engaging in strenuous exercises. The statement added that in order to warn people not to swim or do other water activities, a red flag has been hoisted to remind everyone to “stay out of the water”.

The bureau urged residents and tourists to comply with the government’s COVID-19 prevention and control measures, minimise non-essential activities, pay close attention to personal and environmental hygiene, and avoid crowds.
