The Macau Gaming Industry Employees Home group yesterday called for a blanket ban on smoking in local casinos, including VIP rooms.
Since October 2014, smoking has not been allowed in casinos’ mass-market areas, although smoking lounges with separate ventilation systems are permitted, while high-rollers are still allowed to smoke in VIP rooms.
According to a research report released by the Institute for the Study of Commercial Gaming at the University of Macau (UM) in May 2014, 29.8 percent of gaming workers were smokers, while 16.4 percent of the population (15-years-old or above) smoked.
