MGTO said in a statement on Friday that it held the 2022 “Quality Tourism Services Accreditation Scheme” (QTSAS) Online Assessment Seminar for the Food and Beverage Sector earlier that day to brief accredited merchants on the supervision period’s assessment criteria and logistics.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the statement noted that MGTO will not process new applications for the catering sector this year, but will appraise each accredited catering business through the “Mystery Shopping Assessment” twice during the supervision period in line with the current assessment mechanism.
The online seminar, according to the statement, had 73 attendees, including MGTO Deputy Director Cheng Wai Tong, Consumer Council (CC) Executive Committee member Leong Pek San and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) representative Ma Io Meng.
The statement pointed out that Enviroforce Monitoring Inspection & Testing Company Ltd., the technical support unit for QTSAS’s assessment on accredited catering businesses, explained the assessment criteria and logistics during the seminar.
Moreover, following the assessment mechanism specified by the amended guidelines on applications for QTSAS 2022, the statement said that the “Mystery Shopping Assessment” will be conducted twice on the 258 QTSAS-accredited businesses by the QTSAS Assessment Committee, with merchants who passed the assessment remaining accredited with the Star Merchant Award.
Moreover, the statement underlined that in line with Law No. 8/2021 on the Operation of Hotel Establishments effective from this year, MGTO has made adjustments to the “rules of enforcement” and “award mechanism” of QTSAS for the catering sector, while the application manual and assessment criteria were amended accordingly.
Catering businesses were reclassified into four categories by QTSAS under the amended rules of enforcement: Restaurant (hotel), Restaurant (non-hotel), Food and Beverage Establishment and Simple Dining Establishment. In addition, the “Special Theme Award” was added to the list of awards, some of which were also renamed.
