Judiciary Police spokeswoman Lei Hon Nei said at a special press conference yesterday that two Hong Kong men were arrested on Tuesday after one of the suspects collected three parcels containing a large quantity of drugs from a pickup point in Fai Chi Kei district.
Lei said the two suspects are surnamed Hui and Tsui, aged 54 and 53, respectively. Hui is a construction worker, while Tsui told the police that he is jobless. Lei said that both suspects lived in the mainland and entered Macau on Tuesday.
Lei said that the Judiciary Police were notified by Zhuhai’s Public Security Bureau (PSB) in June that they discovered two suspicious parcels addressed to Hui and forwarded to the mainland via Central America which contained a large quantity of controlled psychotropic drugs, adding that the final destination of the two parcels was Macau.
Lei noted that the Judiciary Police carried out a joint operation with the Macau Customs Service and mainland police, adding that right after the two parcels were transferred to Macau via the mainland on June 18, PJ officers put the pickup point under surveillance and waited for Hui to collect the parcels. During the surveillance, PJ officers discovered that apart from the two parcels, Hui had another uncollected package at the pickup point waiting for him.
According to Lei, PJ officers intercepted Hui and Tsui on Tuesday after the former collected the three parcels at the pickup point and met up with the latter. The officers found 3,733 capsules and pills, suspected to be prohibited drugs in Macau, hidden under “chocolate” and “facemask” packaging in the parcels.
Under questioning, Hui admitted he knew that the pills are prohibited drugs, adding that he had been paid 200 to 300 yuan each time for receiving the parcels in Macau, while Tsui claimed that he did not know there were drugs in the parcels, according to Lei.
Lei said that Hui and Tsui have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), both facing drug-trafficking charges.
