The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) forecast on its website yesterday that Tropical Storm “Ma-on” will come closest to the coast of Guangdong province between tomorrow evening and Thursday, which may have a “significant” impact on the Pearl River Delta (PRD) and strengthen winds in Macau, combined with heavy squally showers and thunderstorms.
According to the weather station, Ma-on, which was located in the ocean east of Luzon in the Philippines, was expected to enter within 800 km of Macau this evening, when a tropical cyclone signal will be issued.
The observatory underlined that the possible impact of a storm surge was still being assessed as Ma-on’s track and intensity were “still uncertain”, especially where it will make landfall. Therefore, the bureau advised the public to keep abreast of the latest weather updates.
Moreover, the weather station issued a Yellow hot weather alert, i.e., “very hot” weather is expected between today and tomorrow, so the bureau urged the public to beware of heatstroke, and drink plenty of water.
Meanwhile, the observatory predicted that today’s weather will be sunny and very hot, partly cloudy with a few showers, adding that a few thunderstorms will occur this afternoon.
