The Pharmaceutical Administration Bureau (ISAF) urged residents in a statement yesterday not to buy or use two topical anti-itch products.

According to the Hong Kong Department of Health, the two products are the third and fifth generation formulations of “ACH Australian Health Care Cortizone EX Ultra Moisturising Natural Herbs Anti-Itch Cream”.

According to the Hong Kong Department of Health, one the ingredients in these two products was found to contain a Western medicine substance called “betamethasone dipropionate”.

According to the statement,” Betamethasone dipropionate is steroid medication for the treatment of inflammation, with side effects such as moon face, hypertension, hyperglycaemia, muscle atrophy, adrenal insufficiency, and osteoporosis.

The bureau said that it did not approve the importation or sale of the two products in the local market.

The bureau warned residents that if they have purchased the products, they should stop using them immediately and hand them over to the ISAF office at 51 Avenida de Sidónio Pais, China Plaza, 1-4/F.

For further enquiries, residents may call ISAF’s hotline on 8598 3533 during office hours.
