Five people got into a fight in Areia Preta on Monday (as reported by The Macau Post Daily on its front page yesterday) in a contretemps over family and money, and a man was stabbed and critically wounded by his ex-wife’s boyfriend, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Chong Kam Leong said at a special press conference yesterday.
Chong said that the two local victims are a father and son aged 68 and 33 respectively. Two local suspects, both surnamed Lei claimed that they’re jobless, are father and daughter, aged 67 and 34 respectively. The other suspect surnamed Lin, Lei’s boyfriend, is a non-resident worker (NRW) from the mainland who works as a hairdresser.
Chong noted that the couple divorced in 2020, adding that in 2020 and 2021 the ex-wife had reported her ex-husband to the police for domestic violence, blackmail and fraud, while the ex-husband accused her of robbery in 2021. Chong did not provide any details of the cases except that they had been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP).
According to Chong, early Monday morning Lei and her boyfriend, Lin, went to a flat where the victims live in Areia Preta to demand alimony and money, totalling 600,000 patacas, related to previous disputes with her ex-husband, but were only able to speak to his father. The suspects then verbally abused his father, Chong said, adding that the father called the police for assistance, after which police officers arrived at the scene to mediate and persuaded the two suspects to leave.
Chong said that the two suspects waited downstairs for her ex-husband to return. Meanwhile the ex-wife called her father to wait with them. At 1 p.m. on Monday, the trio intercepted the father-and-son and got into a heated argument, which escalated into an assault against the son, Chong said, adding that the father could not stop the attackers, and Lin stabbed the son on the left side of his chest with a 13-centimetre knife, critically wounding him.
Chong said that police arrested the daughter and Lin at the scene as her father had left before the police arrived, while the victims were rushed to the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre for emergency treatment.
According to a separate statement by the Fire Services Bureau (CB) on Monday, the son suffered severe bleeding on the left side of his chest. He was also bleeding from stab wounds to his left forearm and left index finger.
According to Chong, the victim’s father sustained injuries to his face and a chest fracture, while the son was still in critical condition after yesterday’s surgery.
Under questioning, the ex-wife admitted that she attacked her ex-husband’s back with a key, while Lin admitted that he brought the knife with him to attack the 33-year-old victim, Chong said, adding that the ex-wife’s father also went to the police later that day to help with the investigation. Chong said that the ex-wife’s father denied attacking his daughter’s ex-husband, but confessed that he assaulted the victim’s father.
The trio were transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office yesterday for further questioning, facing aggravated assault charges, while Lin also faces a charge of carrying an illegal weapon, Chong said.
