A Filipino passenger died during a special charter flight arranged by the Philippine Consulate General from Macau to Manila on Friday, the consulate said in a statement on the same day.

According to the statement, the passenger was accompanied by his or her spouse on Philippine Airlines flight No.PR8353.

The statement did not reveal the passenger’s gender and age.

The statement noted that the passenger, who had a prior medical condition but was declared medically fit to travel, sought assistance around 30 minutes after the flight took off, which some of the flight crew and two passengers provided.

Emergency health services were also deployed when the plane landed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), the statement added.

“The Philippine Consulate General in Macau SAR consoles with the family and friends” of the passenger, the statement said, pledging to “continue coordinating with the DFA [Department of Foreign Affairs] and other concerned authorities in extending assistance to the family of our late kababayan”.

“Kababayan” is the Tagalog word for compatriot.
