A creche employee accidentally dislocated a toddler’s left arm when she picked him up, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Leng Kam Lon said at a regular press conference yesterday.

Leng said that the suspect is a non-resident worker (NRW) from the Philippines surnamed Padre in her thirties. The male victim is two years old.

According to Leng, the parents of the victim reported to the police on Saturday that they found their son’s left arm dislocated after they picked him up from a creche in Rua Central da Areia Preta. PJ officers then checked the September 13 CCTV camera footage from the nursery which showed that the victim was pushing some chairs, after which Padre carried him to the other side of the room. The victim’s left arm was hanging loosely afterwards, Leng said.

Leng said that Padre was called to a police station on Monday. Under questioning, Padre admitted carrying the victim to stop him from pushing the chairs, and said she did not know that the toddler was hurt.

Padre was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) yesterday, facing a charge of causing bodily harm by negligence, according to Leng.
