Melco Resorts and Entertainment said in a statement earlier this week that 55 of its staff have been admitted to its Back-to-School Programme, with an opening ceremony held on Monday.

The programme, the statement noted, provides staff who have prematurely left school with an opportunity to gain their high-school diploma by undertaking formal education in-house at Melco alongside their employment. It was first launched in 2010.

It is organised by Melco in conjunction with the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEDJ) and Seong Fan School of the Macau Chamber of Commerce (ACM), according to the statement.

A number of guests attended the opening ceremony including Melco Chairman & CEO Lawrence Ho Yau-lung; Melco Chief Advisor Kent Wong (黃昇雄); DSEDJ Deputy Director Wong Ka Ki; and the director of the Education and Youth Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau Special Administrative Region, Cen Jiayi.

Ho was quoted in the statement as saying: “It is fantastic to see 55 colleagues successfully enrolled in the programme in this new school year, and we wish them the very best in their endeavours. We appreciate that the juggling of work, study and family requires perseverance, dedication and determination. The company will offer its full support to allow our colleagues to devote themselves to attaining their goals for personal and professional development through the programme.”

Meanwhile, Seong Fan School Principal Cheang Hong Kuong was quoted as saying: “The company [Melco] has been a strong advocate and pioneer of local talent development through the promotion and implementation of lifelong learning initiatives, both among colleagues and the community. Together with Melco, we look forward to supporting the newly-enrolled students in their in-house learning to help them broaden perspectives for growth and development.”
