A 30-year-old man who works for a VIP room’s accounting department doctored accounting records and managed to pocket HK$5.1 million, all of which he said he has gambled away, a Judiciary Police (PJ) press conference on Friday revealed.

According to a PJ spokesman, the company that operates the VIP room reported the case to the police last week after auditing the accounting records of five transactions made between March and May.

The spokesman said that the suspect, a local resident surnamed Chang, took a customer’s HK$5.1 million deposited into the VIP room accounts to gamble. After Chang had gambled all the money away, he used his colleagues’ transaction password to enter false accounting records to “balance the books”.
