The 10th Macao International Travel (Industry) Expo opened yesterday at the Venetian Convention & Exhibition Centre to deepen "tourism plus" integration, drawing together members of the tourism and related sectors from worldwide.

Running in both online and offline format, the expo presents seven major highlights to support the tapping of business opportunities online, showcase different cultures, present Macau as a platform linking China and Portuguese-speaking countries, and brand the city as a wedding destination.

The Guangdong-Macau In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin has joined as a first-time exhibitor to expand tourism cooperation between the island, which is part of the adjacent city of Zhuhai, and Macau.

Secretary for Economy and Finance Lei Wai Nong said at the opening ceremony yesterday morning he hopes that the three-day expo will promote the unique strengths and role of Macau as a platform and create more opportunities for exchanges and cooperation among members of the regional and international travel industry.

The expo will host about 50 tourism presentation sessions, forums and activities, including those held by mainland provinces and municipalities as well as a high-level forum on tourism development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA), according to the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO), the event organizer.

The exhibition floor covers about 23,000 square meters and comprises 830 booths. The expo was first held in 2013. – Xinhua, MPD
