Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng yesterday listened to views and suggestions from local members of the All-China Youth Federation (ACYF) on his upcoming 2023 Policy Address, the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS) said in a statement last night.
Ho said during yesterday’s meeting that Macau’s patriotic education should start with young people’s better understanding of the nation’s Constitution, the Macau Basic Law, and Macau’s Law on Safeguarding National Security.
According to the statement, yesterday’s meeting was held at the World Trade Centre Macau in Nape.
A delegation of local ACYF members who attended yesterday’s meeting with Ho was led by Alvis Lo Iek Long, a vice-chairman of the ACYF.
Lo is the director of the Macau Health Bureau (SSM).
Lo is one of the current 18 vice-chairpersons of the ACYF. Lo is the sole ACYF vice-chairman from Macau.
The statement said that during yesterday’s meeting Lo underlined that local ACYF members have always been promoting the spirit of loving the country and loving Macau, under Ho’s care and leadership.
Lo also said that local ACYF members have been working to enhance young local people’s understanding of the latest developments of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA) and the Guangdong-Macau In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, according to the statement.
The statement pointed out that other local ACYF members also raised suggestions during yesterday’s meeting on various topics such as Macau’s strengthened participation in the GBA and in the in-depth cooperation zone in Hengqin.
Ho said during the meeting that Macau needs to enhance young local people’s understanding of the importance of safeguarding national security.
Ho also underlined that the Guangdong and Macau governments have obtained a raft of achievements in their joint work promoting the development of the in-depth cooperation zone in Hengqin since the commencement of its operation about a year ago.
Several senior local government officials also attended yesterday’s meeting.
