The Books and the City’s 31st issue, themed “Discovering Beauty by Reading through the City”, is now available, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) said in a statement yesterday.

The statement noted that the trilingual Books in the City magazine is published by the Macau Public Library, with the current issue featuring an interview with “two reading leaders” from the “4•23 Reading in the City” event in 2022 and four institutions participating in reading spots.

According to the statement, the “Library Handbook” also introduces the “Learning by Reading – Talk on Reading Literacy in Public Libraries and University Libraries” lecture, exploring public and tertiary education institutions’ libraries’ similarities and differences from the perspectives of library management and services.

The “Library Portrait”, meanwhile, introduces a workshop on “The Various Benefits of Strengthening Pelvic Floor Muscles”, which talks about how exercise and reading can be combined, the statement added.

The statement underlined that the “Author’s Say” section introduces the motivation of photographer António Leong’s work “Daily impermanence” and explains how to use photography to rediscover Macau, capture moments and “tell the story of centuries-old world heritage”.

The “New Launch”, the statement noted, introduces a variety of new books and films, among others. The issue also features 10 brief book reviews in Chinese, Portuguese and English.

There are 3,000 copies available for free at all libraries under the bureau, tertiary education institutions, Tap Seac Gallery and several bookstores, as well as cultural and art facilities, the statement said.

The past 30 issues can be found at www.library.gov.mo.
