A Hong Kong woman was confirmed dead after “falling” from a building on Rua Central da Areia Preta yesterday morning, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Ho Chan Nam said in a statement.
The woman surnamed Lau was 46 years old.
According to the statement, the Judiciary Police (PJ) were notified by the Public Security Police (PSP) at 5:34 a.m. yesterday that a female was lying on the building’s 2nd floor podium.
The statement said that at 3 a.m. that day the victim told her husband that she was going to the toilet. Her husband only realised the tragedy after the police arrived and informed him, the statement said, adding that the toilet door was locked and the window was open.
The statement said that the victim suffered from an illness. A suicide note was found in the flat.
According to a preliminary examination of the body, the deceased sustained injuries caused by “falling from a height”, but the exact cause of death could only be confirmed by a forensic examination, the statement noted.
