Macau's imports of mobile phones dropped 44.5 percent year on year in the first eight months of the year to 7.57 billion patacas, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) has announced.
According to a DSEC statement on Thursday, imports of beauty, cosmetics and skincare products – Macau's top import segment – fell 19.6 percent to 13.19 billion patacas between January and August.
However, food and beverage imports - the city's number-two import segment – rose 24.6 percent to 11.63 billion patacas.
Total imports decreased 11.0 percent to 90.0 billion patacas, while total exports (domestic and re-exports) rose 3.0 percent to 9.1 billion patacas. Re-exports accounted to 84.8 percent of all exports.
Most imports originated from the Chinese mainland (30.1 percent), France (19.4 percent) and Italy (11.4 percent). Hong Kong accounted for 76.7 percent of all exports.
