The Macau government will relax its COVID-19 nucleic acid testing (NAT) requirements for arrivals from Hong Kong, Taiwan and foreign countries undergoing a post-hotel-quarantine period after completing their seven-day hotel quarantine, effective from tomorrow, the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre announced in a statement last night.

The statement pointed out that currently those arriving in Macau from the Chinese regions of Hong Kong and Taiwan or foreign countries must undergo seven days of hotel quarantine, after which they must practise three days of self-health management, during which they will have a yellow Macau Health Code.

Currently, those with a yellow Macau Health Code are barred from entering certain premises and facilities in the city, using public transport, and entering the mainland from Macau.

The statement also noted that currently, after completing their three-day self-health management, the respective individuals must continue practising four days of self-health monitoring, during which their Macau Health Code will return to green, but they should avoid attending any activities or events involving crowd gatherings.

Last night’s statement announced that from tomorrow, the Macau government will cancel the four-day self-health monitoring for arrivals from Hong Kong, Taiwan and foreign countries.

Last night’s statement noted that the new measure that will take effect tomorrow means that the Macau government will change its current arrangement of “7+3+4” to a “7+3” arrangement.

The statement pointed out that currently, those who have completed their seven-day hotel quarantine after arriving in Macau from Hong Kong, Taiwan or foreign countries must undergo five COVID-19 nucleic acid tests, on the first, second, third, fifth and seventh day after completing the hotel quarantine period, i.e., three tests during the three-day self-health management plus two tests during the four-day self-health monitoring.

Last night’s statement announced that with the cancellation of the four-day self-health monitoring from tomorrow, its two currently-required tests will be cancelled accordingly, i.e., on the fifth and seventh day after completing the hotel quarantine period.

Nevertheless, last night’s statement announced, from tomorrow arrivals from Hong Kong, Taiwan and foreign countries who have completed their seven-day hotel quarantine must undergo four COVID-19 nucleic acid tests, namely on the day they leave their quarantine hotel, as well as on the first, second and third day after completing the hotel quarantine period.
