Two men have been arrested separately for sexual harassment, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Cheuk Kou Chi said at a press conference yesterday.
Cheuk said that one of the suspects, a local surnamed Kuan in his fifties, worked as a doorman for a residential building on Rampa dos Cavaleiros in Areia Preta. The victim is a 15-year-old student living in the building.
According to Cheuk, when the girl was walking through the lobby of the building on October 16, Kuan touched her chest and abdomen. After arriving at home she told her mother about the incident, who reported the case to the police immediately.
Kuan was arrested later that day and admitted to sexually harassing the girl because he found her attractive, Cheuk said.
Meanwhile, the other suspect surnamed Chen, a construction worker from the mainland in his seventies, came to Macau as a tourist.
According to Cheuk, the victim in her thirties reported to the police on Friday that earlier that day she had been sexually harassed by a man who was walking towards her and touched her buttocks with his hand as he passed. The victim and the perpetrator were crossing a zebra crossing in Avenida Doutor Mário Soares at the time.
After scrutinising their CCTV city wide camera system, the police identified Chen, who was intercepted in a hostel in the city centre on Friday, Cheuk said.
Chen denied the accusation, adding that his water bottle might have “accidentally” touched the victim’s buttocks. However, the CCTV footage showed that he had not carried a water bottle on that day, and thus the police assume that he did indeed touch her buttocks.
Chen and Kuan have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), where both face sexual harassment charges, according to Check.
