A local Vietnamese woman was arrested on Tuesday for running an unlicensed beauty business at her husband’s hair salon in the Praça de Ponte e Horta (known in Cantonese as Si Ta Hau) neighbourhood for five months, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Lou Chan Fai said during a regular press conference on Friday, adding that the suspect had provided double-eyelid surgery and used syringes to inject medical substances for beauty treatments for over 50 customers.
According to Lou, the 35-year-old suspect, surnamed Lei, told police that she is a beautician.
Lou said that on June 10 the Judiciary Police had been tipped off by an anonymous email that an unlicensed beauty salon was being operated in the Si Ta Hau area.
Lou noted that after the Judiciary Police identified Lei as the suspect and located her “beauty salon”, PJ officers intercepted Lei at her shop, where they found more than 20 kinds of aesthetic medicine products and equipment.
Under questioning, Lei told the police that she had operated the beauty business in the mezzanine of her husband’s hair salon since May this year, mainly providing double-eyelid surgery and using syringes to inject medical substances for beauty treatments to local and Vietnamese customers, adding that she had made video clips and shared them on the internet, attracting about 50 customers and earning at least 10,000 patacas, according to Lou.
Lou said that Lei claimed that she had brought the aesthetic medicine products and equipment to Macau from Vietnam in multiple batches or purchased them from others, adding that she charged her customers 200 patacas for each beauty treatment.
Lou pointed out that the Judiciary Police confirmed that no medical licence had been issued for the premises, nor did Lei have a local cosmetic surgery qualification.
Lou noted that Lei has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), where she faces a charge of unauthorised practice of a profession.
