Resort operator SJM said in a statement this week that it celebrated Senior Citizen’s Day with a group of elderly residents from Caritas Macau’s Asilo de Betânia, who were invited to Grand Lisboa Palace in Cotai last Wednesday.
The statement said that the seniors ate at the restaurant Chalou for a “nostalgic Cantonese dim sum experience”, featuring dishes that were served from its signature dim sum carts.
Afterwards, the statement noted, the group took part in a tour around the resort, visiting areas such as the East and West lobbies to admire works of art created by local artists. The seniors, the statement said, also visited hotel rooms and suites, which had Chinoiserie design, which Wikipedia defines as the “European interpretation and imitation of Chinese and other East Asian artistic traditions, especially in the decorative arts, garden design, architecture, literature, theatre, and music”.
The statement added that the seniors also visited Jardim Secreto (Secret Garden) where a series of lantern installations designed by local “grand masters” and young artists for the “Celebration of Art & Culture – Artistic Lantern Festival” are on display. The statement said that the group was impressed by the “sophistication of Chinese artisanal heritage” and their integration with the artists’ modern creativity.
The statement noted that SJM will “continue to work closely with local associations and expand initiatives to foster social connectedness and an inclusive community” in Macau.
