The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement yesterday that it has recently joined forces with the police to patrol several hill-walking trails, such as Coloane Trail, Hac Sa Reservoir Family Trail and Ka Ho Height Family Trail, where groups of cyclists were found violating regulations banning cyclists from riding on walking trails.
In order to avoid accidents and ensure that safety of other hillwalkers, the bureau urged people not to ride bicycles on hill-walking trails. Otherwise, they face punishment.
The statement pointed out that hill-walking trails are often curved, narrow and often downhill from cliffs, which may pose a risk to the safety of cyclists.
The statement noted that “no cycling” notices have been put up at the entrances and exits of walking trails to remind the public to abide by the rules.
The statement underlined that the bureau continues to inspect hill-walking trails, while urging members of the public to make good use of cycle paths and not ride bicycles on hill-walking trails.
Enquiries can be made by calling the bureau’s hotline on 2833 7676.
