Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Chong Kam Lon said in a statement late last night that PJ officers were notified by the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre at 10:20 p.m. yesterday that a woman, who had been admitted to the hospital after attempting suicide by drinking drain cleaning liquid, was later certified dead.
According to the statement, the 63-year-old local victim, surnamed Ieong, lived in a flat near Avenida de Venceslau de Morais with her family.
The statement noted that at about 10 a.m. yesterday, Ieong told her family that the drain in the toilet in the flat was blocked, so she went out to buy drain cleaning liquid. The statement added that when the family returned home at 4 p.m. they found that Ieong had attempted suicide by the drinking drain cleaning liquid.
According to a preliminary examination of the body, the deceased had chemical burns from the mouth to her abdomen, but no suspicious or criminal injuries were found on the deceased, the statement said.
No suicide note was found at the scene, the statement added.
The case has preliminarily been classified as a dead-body-found case.
