The Judiciary Police (PJ) were notified by the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre at 6:40 p.m. yesterday that a woman was certified dead after committing suicide by overdosing on an undisclosed kind of medicine, according to a PJ statement.
The statement noted that the 45-year-old local victim, surnamed Leong, lived in a flat on Rua de Francisco Xavier Pereira with her husband. The statement added that the victim had been ill for years.
The statement said that Leong’s son went to the victim’s home yesterday afternoon and found that she had taken a large amount of medicine, so he immediately called the police.
A preliminary examination showed that the deceased had no suspicious injuries, but the exact cause of death has yet to be determined by forensic examination, the statement pointed out.
According to the statement, a suicide note was found on Leong’s mobile phone.
The case has been listed as a dead body found, the statement noted.
