The Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT) said in a statement yesterday that 22 projects were granted the Natural Science Award, Technological Invention Award and Science and Technological Progress Award under the Macau Science and Technology Awards 2022, with 30 doctoral students having received the Scientific and Technological R&D Award for Postgraduates.

The government held an award presentation ceremony for the awards yesterday at the Macau Cultural Centre in Nape.

The statement noted that the Macau Science and Technology Awards aim to reward those who have made contributions to science and technology activities in Macau.

The statement quoted Secretary for Economy and Finance Lei Wai Nong as saying in a speech during the ceremony that the government has made great efforts in recent years to improve Macau’s system of scientific and technological innovation, cultivate technological talents in Macau, promote a development model led by tertiary education institutions and enterprises and, guided by the market for industry-academia collaboration, to promote the commercialisation of scientific and technological achievements.

Lei also said he hoped that science and technology practitioners in Macau would seize the opportunities brought about by the development of the Guangdong-Macau In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin and the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA) as an international centre for technological innovation to jointly promote the development of technological innovation in Macau and contribute to the appropriate economic diversification of the city.
