The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) said in a statement yesterday that it is calling on local entities to become one of the city’s “reading spots” and to organise reading activities on their own initiative from April 13 to 28, in order to strengthen the “linkage effect” of the bureau’s one-day event “Reading in the City” that marks the April 23 World Book Day.
The statement said that the “reading spots” can be a shop, restaurant, café, woodland, lawn, school, education centre, social group, company, office, among others, without any limitation on the venues and forms of reading activities which are free of charge and open to anyone.
The reading campaign will also involve a raft of mainland cities in the “Reading Together for Half an Hour” programme, which aims to promote “the spirit of reading without boundaries and the convergence of wisdom and promote humanistic exchanges”, the statement said.
The reading spot recruitment period runs until April 26, during which interested entities can fill in the application form and send it to the bureau at macaolib@icm.gov.mo, the statement said.
Details of the programme and enrolment forms can be viewed and downloaded from the bureau’s public libraries’ website at www.library.gov.mo. Enquiries can be made by calling 8598 6665 or 8598 6666 during office hours.
