Aiming to celebrate the anniversary of the establishment of the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) and to add a Christmas atmosphere to Taipa Village, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) said in a statement yesterday that a month-long event entitled “Performances in the Sphere of the Insightful Cultural Excursion” will be held on Saturdays and Sundays from this coming Saturday to New Year’s Eve outside the Taipa Houses and at Carmo Fair.
The statement noted that from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays, several music activities under the theme of “Oriental traditional music” will be held at the Taipa Houses’ outdoor amphitheatre, offering spectators a variety of musical experiences, such as an Indonesian traditional song and dance performance, Philippine pop music, Chinese pop music and meditation music involving the “Hang”, as well as a percussion performance.
According to Wikipedia, the Hang is a type of musical instrument called a handpan, fitting into the idiophone class and based on the Caribbean steelpan instrument.
An idiophone is any musical instrument that creates sound primarily by the vibration of the instrument itself.
From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays, the statement said, different styles of music, a short play called “Stories of Celebrities in Macau’s History”, a Chinese dance performance entitled “Lotus Flowers in Bloom”, comedy theatre, and magic shows will be presented at the Carmo Fair. At the same time, the statement added, interactive activities and booth games with various themes such as “Winter Melodies” and “Christmas Fun and Magic” will also be available at the site, aiming to highlight Macau’s unique multicultural environment.
At the Carmo Fair, the statement pointed out, the balloon art workshop “Happy Holidays” will be held on December 11, with free admission, in which participants will be able to make models with balloons. Those interested in the workshop can sign up for the activity from today to next Tuesday via the IC website: www.icm.gov.mo/eform/event.
