The Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) noted in a statement yesterday that the school-leaving rate of secondary and primary schools decreased from 6.7 percent and 2.3 percent in the 2007/2008 academic year to 1.8 percent and 1.1 percent in the 2020/2021 school year respectively, while the dropout rate fell from 0.43 percent in the 2007/2008 academic year to 0.07 percent in the 2020/2021 school year.
In recent years, the statement said, the bureau has continued to conduct its “Survey on Dropouts and School Leavers”, adding that the survey on dropouts and school leavers in the 2021/2022 academic year has been entrusted to WideBox Open Source Technology Limited which began to collect more data yesterday. The data collection is slated to end on December 23.
The statement noted that the data collection is being conducted in the form of telephone interviews, mainly covering the reasons for students dropping out and leaving school, their willingness to return to school, and their current situation.
According to the statement, the interview period runs from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Mondays to Fridays and from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
The statement underlined that the information collected will be only for statistical and research purposes, and all personal information will be treated confidentially.
